Amul Anand Milk Cooperative Model Gujarat

The Amul cooperative model, founded by Dr Verghese Kurien in Anand, Gujarat transformed India from a milk-deficient to the world's largest dairy producer. The three-tier cooperative structure — village dairy, district union, state federation — gave small farmers economic power and eliminated exploitative middlemen. Today 36 lakh milk producer members across 18,700 village societies supply to 18 district milk unions in Gujarat. The White Revolution model has been replicated in 33 other states.
