Bihar Land Survey Deadline Extended: Now to Be Completed by December 2026

Must read

The Bihar government has extended the deadline for the ongoing land survey until December 2026. Earlier, the deadline was July 2026, but due to the complexity and scale of the process, it has now been extended by five more months. The decision was taken by the Revenue and Land Reforms Department to ensure the smooth and effective completion of the survey.

Reason for Extending the Deadline

After conducting a detailed review of the land survey progress, the state government decided to extend the deadline. Several technical and administrative challenges have been encountered during the process, including:

  •  Delays in data collection
  •  Technical issues in uploading digital records
  •  Land disputes slowing down the process

With the additional time, authorities believe they will be able to complete the land survey effectively across all districts.

New Deadline for Self-Declaration Submission

The last date for landowners to submit their land information through self-declaration forms has also been extended. All landowners (raiyats) can now submit their land details by March 31, 2025, either online or offline. This extension provides relief to those who were unable to complete their documentation on time.

Progress and Challenges in the Survey Process

The land survey in Bihar is being conducted in three phases, and so far, nearly 7.8 million raiyats (landowners) have submitted their land information. However, several delays and obstacles have slowed down the process.

Major Challenges:

Technical Issues: The online self-declaration service was temporarily suspended until February 21, 2025, for system upgrades, causing delays.

Land Disputes: Many land disputes across Bihar have hindered survey completion.

Digitization Delays: The Bihar government plans to digitize all land records, but progress has been slower than expected.

Government’s Commitment and Budget Allocation

To ensure timely completion, the Bihar government has increased budget allocations for the project. During the budget session, a sum of ₹1,955.98 crore was approved for the Revenue and Land Reforms Department.

Bihar’s Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Sanjay Saraogi reaffirmed that the government remains committed to completing the land survey within the new deadline. Despite the extension, authorities will work toward digitizing land records faster to enhance transparency and efficiency.

Importance of Digital Land Records

The Bihar government aims to implement a transparent land management system through this project. Key benefits include:

All land records will be securely digitized. Landowners will be able to access ownership details and documents online.

A digital land system will help minimize disputes and improve efficiency.

What Landowners Need to Do

If you own land in any district of Bihar, you must submit your land details by March 31, 2025, either online or offline.

Required Documents

  • Khasra number and Khatiyan details
  • Owner’s identification (Aadhaar card, Voter ID, Ration card, etc.)
  • Bank account details (if applicable for compensation cases)

The extension of Bihar’s land survey deadline until December 2026 provides landowners with more time to update their land records. This initiative is part of the state’s digital land reform program, aimed at minimizing disputes and improving record-keeping accuracy. With the new timeline in place, Bihar is expected to fully digitize land records across all districts within the extended deadline.
