In the State Energy Efficiency Performance Award (Group 2) category of the National Energy Conservation Awards-2024, Andhra Pradesh won first place for its continuous efforts to promote and implement energy efficiency (EE) and conservation measures in the transportation, building, industry, and municipal sectors.
At the National Energy Conservation Day ceremony on Saturday at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, Union Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy Shripad Naik presented the award to B.A.V.P. Kumara Reddy, the CEO of the A.P. State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) and Government Joint Secretary (Energy).
Based on energy use, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) separated the States into four groups, according to an official statement. With a score of 87.25 points on the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) 2024—a 4.80% increase from the SEEI 2023 score of 83.25—A.P. has been ranked as the best performer and put in Group-2, despite its total final energy consumption ranging from 5 to 15 million tonnes of oil equivalent.
In addition to implementing EE projects in schools, hospitals, and ITI colleges, Mr. Kumara Reddy stated that the SECM made significant progress in implementing the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) in commercial buildings and promoting energy conservation in residential buildings. The government also established energy conservation cells headed by nodal officers and involved all departments in promoting EE.
