Russia’s foreign service chief, CIA director discuss possible meeting over phone
Moscow, Apr 24 (PTI) Amid speculations of Trump envoy’s visit to Moscow for Ukraine negotiations, Chief of Russia’s foreign service (SVR) Sergei Naryshkin on Thursday held a telephonic conversation with CIA Director John Ratcliffe and the two sides discussed a possible meeting soon.
Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, will visit Russia as part of US efforts to resolve Russia’s war with Ukraine.
“I had a telephone conversation with my colleague, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency. It was a very constructive conversation. So I do not rule out the possibility of a meeting in the near future,” Tass quoted Naryshkin as saying.
About the multi-pronged dialogue with the US suspended during the Biden Administration, Secretary of Russia’s National Security Council Sergei Shoigu said that the Trump administration had a better understanding of the “root cause” of the Ukrainian crisis.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted Trump’s statement about Crimea and added the region was not part of the Ukraine negotiations. PTI VS PY PY PY
