Early summer vacation for Chhattisgarh schools due to heatwave conditions
Raipur, Apr 22 (PTI) In view of the prevailing heatwave conditions in Chhattisgarh, the state government on Tuesday brought forward summer vacation in schools and declared that it will start from April 25 instead of May 1, an official said.
The order to declare summer vacation from April 25 till June 15 was issued by the state school education department in the evening, he said here.
As per a previous department order, the summer vacation was scheduled from May 1 to June 15 in government, aided, non-aided and non-government schools, the official informed.
Keeping in view the possibility of adverse impact on health of students due to the rising temperatures and heatwave conditions prevailing in the state, the government has made a partial amendment in the vacation period, he said.
However, the order will not be applicable for teachers, he clarified.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in a post on ‘X’ said, “In view of the intense heat and heatwave in the state, summer vacation has been declared from April 25 to June 15 in all government and non-government schools to protect the health of students. Children are requested to avoid going out in scorching sun, drink plenty of water and participate in creative activities at home and enjoy the holidays.” According to officials, several parts of the state are currently experiencing temperatures in the excess of 40 degrees Celsius.
The meteorological centre in Raipur on Tuesday predicted heatwave conditions over isolated pockets of north and central Chhattisgarh for the next three days.
It said, “There was heatwave activity over Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district during the last 24 hours. Maximum temperatures are likely to be in the range of 43-45 degrees Celsius in districts under Bilaspur, Durg and Raipur divisions for the next five days.” On Tuesday, the highest temperature in the state was recorded in Raipur at 44.4 degrees Celsius, it added.
