Important cases heard in the Delhi High Court on Tuesday, April 22: * HC said Baba Ramdev’s purported remark of “sharbat jihad” on Hamdard’s Rooh Afza “shocked its conscience” and was indefensible, prompting the Yoga guru to assure he will immediately take down related online content.
* HC asked activist Medha Patkar to move the sessions court for permission to defer the execution of a sentence, in which she was asked to deposit Rs one lakh fine in a defamation case filed by Delhi LG V K Saxena.
* HC posted on September 19 former Union minister M J Akbar’s appeal challenging the acquittal of journalist Priya Ramani in a criminal defamation case over her accusations of sexual harassment against him.
* Setting aside the prosecution of a mother for allegedly failing to timely report the sexual assault on her 10-year-old daughter by the father and cousins, the HC has said POCSO Act did not intend to criminalise delayed reporting in circumstances of duress.
