Two active members of the banned United National Liberation Front (Pambei) were apprehended from Uripok Khoisnam Leikai area in Imphal West district on Friday for their alleged involvement in extortion activities, he said.
The security forces also apprehended one active member of the outlawed Peoples’ Liberation Army from a rented house in Sekmai in Imphal West district, the police said.
In a separate operation, security forces had on Thursday recovered three sophisticated firearms, including one AK56 rifle and an INSAS rifle, six IEDs and two hand grenades from two persons near T Minou village in Tengnoupal district, the police said.
Security forces have been conducting search operations in Manipur since ethnic violence broke out two years ago.
More than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023.
The Centre had on February 13 imposed the President’s rule in Manipur after Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned.
